Day 9 External Recognition Day

I am feeling proud of what I have achieved so far. It has been a nerve-wracking but, at the same time, an uplifting experience working with digital software that has always been challenging.

It is good to know that help and guidance is never too far away.

Thank you to the Manaiakalani Education Trust for this opportunity to up-skill and work completely out of my comfort zone. A special thanks to Dorothy, Jeremy, Jacob, Vicki, Matt, Makaore and Fiona, for believing in me and being so encouraging.

I am looking forward to seeing how much further I can be pushed, while I navigate my way around the Google world.

Today is our last day doing the Digital Intensive. I am so thankful for the fabulous teachers and principals I have had the privilege to explore all digital possibilities alongside.

Many of my colleagues have already found out they have been successful in achieving external recognition.

Meantime, I am still waiting......... TORTURE!!!

Day 8 of Digital fluency Intensive

Today is the official last day of the course but I WILL be back to sit the exam. It has been an interesting crash course in empowering myself and my class to do really creative things, like using Scratch and directing a 'sprite' to move and talk.
We were visited by a very talented young man, by the name the name of Austin who is a Year 8 student at one of the Manaiakalani schools. Boy!!! Is he good!! He has created so many games and did so well to come and present is amazing work in front of a whole of strangers.

Thanks so much to Dorothy, Jeremy, Jacob, Vicki, Fiona, and Matt for all their time and effort. I am by no means finished with this journey. You have excited (lol!!!!) and inspired me to keep learning about all matters digital.

Ka mau te wehi!! Awesome!!!

I shall look forward to continuing with this Manaiakalani education when I bring my kids along for the ride.

Kia ako, Kia hanga, kia tohatoha!!!

My reflection on my DFI journey so far

I was a little apprehensive in the beginning, before the course had started. I knew I have so much to learn and I thought I wasn't going to be able to keep up, but Dorothy and all the facilitators have been amazingly encouraging and so supportive. It's nice to know there are so many other teachers out there, who can help you out when you come across something a little tricky.

Now I'm really itching to get my class going, on our new class site. It's going to be a whole new world for them, and in particular, for those children who have some difficulty with school work, there will be so many varied modes of learning material, the experience for my class should be exciting and engaging.

Create: Making Meaning of Content- making a screen casting recording

Here, I've found a short slide show about email scams, particularly around being more smart online with your money. I had a very interesting conversation with the mother of one of my boys in my class about a very naughty adventure he had gone on, at 2am in the morning; he had snuck into his parents' bedroom, took his mother's credit card out of her purse and proceeded to spend $500 towards buying characters on a game site he shouldn't have been on in the first place!!!- Fortnite. So, what do you do, to become smarter with your money.

Below is video about how to detect scams on your emails.

Happy Weekend everyone!!!

Here is screenshot os something that was a collaboration with Majda and Susana, using an ipad. We used Explaining Everything  (explaineverything.com) to:

do a drawing of an iphone

take a selfie

write our names

Thanks to Majda, who asked Richard to download the app onto her ipad.
