Day 9 External Recognition Day

I am feeling proud of what I have achieved so far. It has been a nerve-wracking but, at the same time, an uplifting experience working with digital software that has always been challenging.

It is good to know that help and guidance is never too far away.

Thank you to the Manaiakalani Education Trust for this opportunity to up-skill and work completely out of my comfort zone. A special thanks to Dorothy, Jeremy, Jacob, Vicki, Matt, Makaore and Fiona, for believing in me and being so encouraging.

I am looking forward to seeing how much further I can be pushed, while I navigate my way around the Google world.

Today is our last day doing the Digital Intensive. I am so thankful for the fabulous teachers and principals I have had the privilege to explore all digital possibilities alongside.

Many of my colleagues have already found out they have been successful in achieving external recognition.

Meantime, I am still waiting......... TORTURE!!!

Day 8 of Digital fluency Intensive

Today is the official last day of the course but I WILL be back to sit the exam. It has been an interesting crash course in empowering myself and my class to do really creative things, like using Scratch and directing a 'sprite' to move and talk.
We were visited by a very talented young man, by the name the name of Austin who is a Year 8 student at one of the Manaiakalani schools. Boy!!! Is he good!! He has created so many games and did so well to come and present is amazing work in front of a whole of strangers.

Thanks so much to Dorothy, Jeremy, Jacob, Vicki, Fiona, and Matt for all their time and effort. I am by no means finished with this journey. You have excited (lol!!!!) and inspired me to keep learning about all matters digital.

Ka mau te wehi!! Awesome!!!

I shall look forward to continuing with this Manaiakalani education when I bring my kids along for the ride.

Kia ako, Kia hanga, kia tohatoha!!!

My reflection on my DFI journey so far

I was a little apprehensive in the beginning, before the course had started. I knew I have so much to learn and I thought I wasn't going to be able to keep up, but Dorothy and all the facilitators have been amazingly encouraging and so supportive. It's nice to know there are so many other teachers out there, who can help you out when you come across something a little tricky.

Now I'm really itching to get my class going, on our new class site. It's going to be a whole new world for them, and in particular, for those children who have some difficulty with school work, there will be so many varied modes of learning material, the experience for my class should be exciting and engaging.

Create: Making Meaning of Content- making a screen casting recording

Here, I've found a short slide show about email scams, particularly around being more smart online with your money. I had a very interesting conversation with the mother of one of my boys in my class about a very naughty adventure he had gone on, at 2am in the morning; he had snuck into his parents' bedroom, took his mother's credit card out of her purse and proceeded to spend $500 towards buying characters on a game site he shouldn't have been on in the first place!!!- Fortnite. So, what do you do, to become smarter with your money.

Below is video about how to detect scams on your emails.

Happy Weekend everyone!!!

This is our fabulous group we have been spending the last seven days with, on our DFI journey.
I'm in here with Majda and Susana. A former OPS colleague, Matua Lewin is also featured.

Making a multi-modal site

Check out the site I made.

I have found a new and exciting way to  make learning more accessible to my children in Room 16. Muti-modal sites are really useful for children who like to use all their senses when learning. So much wonderful learning to be had, by creating a common theme around our early readers and higher levels of reading books.

So cool to see the multi-text database made by Angela.

Thanks to our wonderful table of fellow collaborative, innovative junior teachers; along with Dorothy, Jeremy, Jacob and Matt.

How lucky are we, to have all your guidance.

Ka mau te wehi!!!

What a fabulous introduction to creating my own spreadsheet; then analysing a student's blog archive and graphing it.

I also embedded my map of places I would like to visit: Austria, Rarotonga and Italy.

Was so nice to have four facilitators and so many more fellow colleagues to grab some teaching ideas from.

I know my own class will enjoy working on Google slides which is something else we were engaged with today.

Altogether a very good day of learning.

Our host school, Papakura Central School, otherwise known as Kotuitui ki Papakura provided us with some delicious snacks and a very warm auditorium to hone our digital skills.

No complaints at all really!!!!

Thanks Dorothy, Jeremy, Vicki, and Cam 👍 👏

Week 3 Online Session

That was certainly a lot to take in, and it wasn't easy. I do love all the possibilities Manaiakalani has presented us with. I know my tamariki are going to have a ball once I've become a lot more confident in using all these different digital platforms. Thanks very much for a good day Dorothy, Jeremy, Vicki, Makaore and my bubble group.

I am currently trying to go back onto Youtube to create my own playlist(s), or at least starting that process, here below you will see my Digital Pepeha that I have been working on.

Off to finish my lunch first!!!! lol.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday Jeremy.

My Very First Google Meeting with Susana

Today, Susana and I learnt about how to use Google Meet to explore blogs from other people. So good to have so many people contributing helpful ideas when using google sites. I am still practising recording my Google Meetings and embedding them onto my blog. Thanks to Jeremy, Jacob, Lewin and Susana for this interesting day.

A further comment about my learning on Friday

 Morena Tatou,

As I was leaving at the end of the day on Friday, I shared with our facilitators, Dorothy, Jeremy and Jacob that it was quite an eye opener.

I felt like I'd just stumbled into the learning space, and was in uncontrolled forward momentum, with learning digitally.

Day 1 DFI Tania's Amazing Digital Journal

Wow!!!!! Such a lot for me to take in, and learn. The experience I have had today however, has still been amazing.

Manaiakalani has 'hooked' me into the digital world, and now I am excited about how the online platforms can help me and my class to create endless learning opportunities. I am in this DFI intake with my wonderful teaching colleagues, including Majda and Susana. We also sat next to Lewin, a former member of our teacher staff at OPS; who was a big help in helping me navigate my way around the various tabs and slide information.

What you can see here, is something I have created this in a Google Doc, and using different ways I can format a doc, using text, creating a table and finding images to insert and I've taken a screenshot of the final result that will share with my students.

Furthermore, I'm really excited with the prospect of using another tool known as voice typing. I know this is going to be incredibly helpful for some of my reluctant writers!!! They won't know themselves!!!
